Preparation for HLTA Status

Course Overview
The 3 day course prepares Teaching Assistants to present evidence of their current practice and to be assessed against the HLTA standards.

Successful completion of the 3 day preparation course leads to candidates being able to be assessed for national HLTA status. The benefit of completing the preparation for HLTA status is to improve standards and outcomes for children and schools whilst developing candidates’ confidence to reflect on practice and present evidence ready for assessment. A further half day Assessment Visit is payable and arranged by your tutor through HLTA North.

This course is intended for teaching assistants who are already demonstrating a high level of skill and are seeking further personal and professional development. It focuses specifically on how to present evidence of current practice in order to meet the national standards.

The course is led by the School Improvement Officers for Inclusive Learning who are trained HLTA tutors . HLTA assessment is validated by the HTLA National Assessment Partnership.

Achieving Higher Level Teaching Assistant Status requires three steps-
Step 1: Apply and provide initial evidence of Level 2 or equivalent qualifications in maths/numeracy and English/literacy.
Step 2: Attend a three-day Preparation programme which prepares candidates to be assessed against the national HLTA standards.
Step 3: An assessment verification visit leading to the award of HLTA status.
