The Role of the Link Governor for Safeguarding - Online session

Sessions Available Online
Online training sessions are provided via Microsoft Teams. Delegates should use their SIL Account Email Address to login to the Microsoft Teams session.

Course Overview
This full day online course will help delegates to effectively carry out the role of the Link Governor for Safeguarding, enabling them to understand, scrutinise and challenge school’s response to their statutory responsibilities. For the purpose of online delivery, the training is split into one am and one pm session. Delegates must attend both sessions to complete the course.

The training will start promptly at the advertised start time for each session and delegates must be in attendance for the duration of each session in order to complete the course.

Session start/end times
Part 1: 09:30 - 12:00
Part 2: 13:30 - 16:00
Participants must attend both sessions in full in order to complete the course and receive certification.

'You will receive a zoom registration link via email around 48 hrs before the session. Please ensure that the email address that you book your space with is accurate and that you register for the session via zoom when you receive the link. If you are booking a space on behalf of another member of staff, please forward on the registration link once received.'

Why attend
This course will enable the Link Governor for Safeguarding to effectively carry out this role on behalf of the Governing Body.  This will support the school to meet the statutory expectation that ‘an individual on the board should take strategic leadership responsibility for the organisation’s wider safeguarding arrangements (and the Prevent duty should be seen as part of the wider safeguarding obligation)’ (Governance Handbook, DfE 2019).

What will it cover

  • The safeguarding responsibilities of the Link Governor for Safeguarding
  • The role of Link Governor for Safeguarding in creating a safer culture within school
  • Key statutory guidance including ‘Working Together’ and ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’
  • Local Safeguarding Children Partnership procedures
  • How to effectively scrutinise safeguarding practice within school
  • Principles of working in partnership with other agencies
  • Key learning from serious case reviews
  • Inspection criteria and how to evidence that your school fulfils its safeguarding duties
