Lisa Dorrity, Director of Research, Development & Innovation at SIL explains more about a new collaboration designed to replace fear of AI with understanding and empower educators with the knowledge, confidence, and ethical grounding to navigate the rapidly evolving world of AI.
“We know that children and young people are often early adopters of technology, and AI is already embedded in many aspects of their everyday lives and will be central to the world they work and live in.
Of course, we’re aware of the concerns of parents and educators- research and headlines capture worries about plagiarism, misinformation and over-reliance. These are real and valid issues. But they shouldn’t stop us from exploring the positive potential of AI in education.
Educators are telling us they want support. They want to understand how AI can enhance—not replace.
How can it be used safely and ethically? How can it open new ways of engaging learners? And most importantly, how can they support their students to move from passive users to critical thinkers who will shape the future of AI?
That’s why our upcoming AI in Education Conference is so important. Taking place this September, the event will bring together educators and leaders to explore the practical, ethical, and pedagogical considerations of AI in schools and other educational settings.
From hands-on workshops to keynote sessions with Professor David Reid, a leading voice in AI and spatial computing, the conference will offer a space to learn, reflect, and plan for the future. Attendees should leave with a clear idea of their next steps and how to develop the AI champion role within their school.
This isn’t just about technology. It’s about building capacity—in our schools, in our staff and in our students."
