The Case Manager

The case manager (headteacher or principal or chair of governors or chair of the management committee or proprietor of an independent school) should follow local safeguarding procedures and make a referral, without delay, if the allegation suggests a member or staff or volunteer has:

  • behaved in a way that has harmed a child, or may have harmed a child
  • possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child
  • behaved towards a child or children in a way that indicates he or she would pose a risk of harm to children
  • behaved or may have behaved in a way that indicates they may not be suitable to work with children

The case manager should consult with the Local Authority Designated Officer (L.A.D.O.) if they are unsure if the concerns meet the above threshold or they would like to discuss inappropriate behaviours.

The case manager should also inform the school’s H.R. adviser who will support them.

The case manager can also consult with the Local Authority Education Safeguarding Advisor who can provide guidance about the process.
