Grounded in national data, statutory guidance and trauma‑informed practice, it will support with dispelling myths, reinforcing accurate social norms, and strengthening the protective role of education.
Developed for School Leaders, PSHE Leaders and Teachers, this guidance supports schools to deliver meaningful, age‑appropriate learning within the PSHE curriculum and wider safeguarding framework.
An overview of the national picture, local context and what schools need to know about weapons, gangs and serious youth violence. Includes myth‑busting, statutory expectations and the foundations of trauma‑informed practice.
Explores national and local data, highlighting the gap between perceived and actual levels of violence. Helps staff understand why reinforcing accurate social norms is essential for prevention.
Practical examples of age‑appropriate PSHE lessons for primary settings. Includes skills‑building around decision‑making, empathy, confidence, boundaries, help‑seeking and healthy friendships.
Guidance for secondary PSHE leads and teachers on delivering sensitive content safely, addressing common misconceptions, and supporting pupils’ wellbeing and critical thinking.
Covers safeguarding, emotional triggers, risk‑assessing lessons, using distancing techniques, avoiding retraumatisation, handling sensitive questions and ensuring every pupil feels safe to learn.

SIL PSHE specialist, Julie, has been a curriculum leader, senior leader, and Advanced Skills Teacher and holds an MSc in Education and NPQH.
She develops and delivers training and tailored support in all areas of PSHE across the phases.
She cares passionately about the empowerment, health and well-being of children and young people.

Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership
The MVRP brings together Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue, local government, National Probation Service, Public Health, the Department of Work and Pensions and the county’s Youth Offending Service, as well as health and education professionals, community leaders and other key partners with one specific aim.
